Warp launches Factories for AI software workflows

The new Warp system is aimed at teams that want AI agents in development without building the full architecture themselves from scratch.
Warp has introduced Warp Factories, a new system designed to make it easier for companies to build and run AI-driven software development workflows. The launch lands at a moment when many businesses are still working out how software engineering should change in the AI era. It also taps into a broader argument: how much of the development process can be handed to agents, and how much still needs people. According to IT-PUB News, Warp is pitching the product as a way to lower that technical barrier.
Warp is packaging the software factory approach
Warp Factories is built around what the industry calls a “software factory” model. In practice, that means organizing AI agents around the usual stages of software development — triage, specification, implementation, review, and verification.
Warp says the system is meant to serve as an infrastructure layer for that model. Rather than asking companies to assemble everything on their own, it offers a ready-made environment for deploying agents, along with guidance on how to use them.
The company presented the product on Tuesday.
Smaller teams are a key target
Warp CEO Zach Lloyd said the system is aimed mainly at smaller companies that do not have the resources to build this kind of architecture themselves. He described the underlying work as a major infrastructure effort, including running agents in the cloud, steering them while they work, bringing their output into a local environment, setting up shared memory, and creating evaluation systems across agents.
Lloyd said Warp Factories already makes many of those decisions for the customer. In effect, companies get the basic architecture out of the box instead of having to design the whole setup themselves.
Warp is not arguing that every business needs a software factory. The pitch is narrower: companies that want this model may want a faster way to reach it.
Warp says the system works with existing tools
Warp says users can choose their own coding model and supporting tools. The system works with both Codex and Claude Code, and it can connect with ticketing platforms such as Linear and Jira, as well as communication tools like Slack and Teams.
That matters because disruption is one of the main barriers to adopting new AI workflows. Warp is trying to position Warp Factories as something that fits into existing processes, not something that replaces them overnight.
The company is also offering tools to manage the system itself. Managers will be able to track performance, compare different configurations, and monitor token spend. Warp says the setup also supports self-improvement loops, which are intended to optimize the overall workflow automatically.
Other companies have already moved in this direction
Warp is not the first company to push toward this model. Some businesses, the source notes, are already making progress on their own without Warp’s help.
Stripe has publicly discussed a “minions” system that automates development inside its codebase. Ramp has also developed a background agent that can monitor its own code after deployment.
That helps explain why Warp’s launch is getting attention. The software factory idea is no longer just theoretical — some companies are already exploring it in practice. Warp’s bet is that others will want similar benefits without building the infrastructure from zero.
Warp still sees engineers staying in the loop
For all the automation involved, Warp is not presenting Warp Factories as a replacement for software engineers. Lloyd said the company still sees many tasks that require a human to stay involved.
He said Warp automates about 30% of its tasks on a weekly basis, or 30% to 35%, depending on the period. He also said that figure could rise as models, context handling, and harnesses improve over time.
That tension sits at the center of the launch. Warp Factories is meant to make AI agents more useful in software development, while also acknowledging that the technology is not ready to remove people from the loop. For now, Warp is framing the product as a way to help teams work with an agentic workforce, not as a full substitute for it.
