Apple reportedly expands smart home plans with LG

Bloomberg says the companies are developing a smart lock, thermostat, doorbell, cameras and a floodlight to work with Apple’s upcoming hub.
Apple is reportedly preparing a broader move into the smart home market through a partnership with LG. Bloomberg says the companies are working on a lineup of connected household devices designed to tie into Apple’s upcoming smart home hub. That would push Apple further beyond phones, laptops and wearables, and deeper into products meant to sit at the center of daily life at home.
The reported lineup includes a smart lock, a thermostat, a doorbell, indoor and outdoor security cameras, and a floodlight. Together, those categories point to a much wider home strategy than a single standalone device.
Apple’s new hub is expected to sit at the center
The devices are being built to work with a smart home hub that is also said to be on the way. Bloomberg reported that the hub could launch on October 13, as IT-PUB News notes.
That hub is expected to have a 6-inch square display and could either sit on a countertop or be mounted on a wall. In practical terms, it would serve as the main control point for the new devices rather than functioning as an isolated gadget.
Apple has not publicly detailed the system, and TechCrunch said it contacted Apple for more information.
The devices would reportedly keep LG branding
One of the more unusual details in the report is the branding. The products are expected to carry the LG name, even though they are reportedly being developed by both companies.
That makes the arrangement stand out. In co-developed hardware, branding often signals which company gets the most visible credit. Here, the report suggests LG would remain front and center.
The source material did not explain why that branding choice was made. Even so, it adds a notable wrinkle to a project that already suggests Apple is working more openly with a major hardware partner in a category where it has kept a lower profile.
Cameras and doorbells would put Apple into a busy market
The reported plans include indoor and outdoor cameras as well as a floodlight camera. Those products would place Apple and LG in a smart home segment that already has plenty of established players.
Bloomberg also framed the effort as a possible challenge to Amazon’s smart home lineup, which includes similar products such as Ring home security cameras.
That helps explain why the report drew attention. A move into locks, thermostats, doorbells and cameras would not just expand Apple’s hardware catalog — it would give the company a shot at a more central role in how people monitor and manage their homes.
Apple’s hardware push appears to be widening
Apple has been looking for new areas of hardware growth, and the smart home appears to be one of them. The reported LG partnership fits that direction.
For consumers, the practical impact would depend on price, how smoothly the devices work together, and how well they fit into homes that already rely on other systems. The report did not include those details, so key parts of the picture are still missing.
What does stand out is the scale of the reported plan. With a hub at the center and devices covering access, climate control and home security, Apple appears to be aiming for a broader presence in the connected home rather than just another personal gadget.
