Anthropic expands Claude startup program

Eligible young companies can get a free year of Claude Team, $1,000 in API credits, plugin-building tools and office hours with Anthropic.

Anthropic has expanded its Claude for Startups program with a package aimed at helping young companies build with its AI tools. The offer includes a free year of Claude Team, $1,000 in API credits, and access to features that let startups create plugins for Claude.

This is more than a simple discount. Anthropic is trying to tie its AI products more closely to startups that may build services on top of its models, shaping how those companies use AI in real products and day-to-day workflows. According to IT-PUB News, the package combines product access with tools and support meant to lower the barrier for early-stage teams.

Free Claude Team access targets early-stage companies

The updated program was announced on Tuesday during Anthropic’s SF Tech Week event. It is aimed at companies that meet the eligibility rules: they must have been founded within the last five years or have received funding in the last two years.

Qualifying startups will get a free year of Claude Team, Anthropic’s paid plan for groups. The plan includes up to five premium seats, which makes clear that the offer is geared toward small teams, not large organizations.

Anthropic is also offering $1,000 in API credits alongside the group subscription. Those credits can be used for building with Claude, lowering the initial cost for startups that want to test the model or integrate it into their products.

Claude Marketplace and office hours add practical support

The expanded program goes beyond access and credits. Anthropic said participating companies will also be able to use Claude Marketplace, a feature that lets them build plugins for the service.

That may matter most for startups that want to create more customized tools around Claude instead of using it only as a general-purpose chatbot. The company is also offering virtual office hours with Anthropic’s Applied AI team, giving founders and developers a direct way to ask questions and get guidance.

For startups, that mix could matter as much as the financial support. Early-stage companies often need both lower costs and practical help when they are experimenting with AI products.

Anthropic wants startups building on its models

Anthropic framed the program as part of a broader view of how AI reaches users. In its announcement, the company said it believes the benefits of AI will reach most people through companies building on top of models, rather than through the models alone.

It also said that working closely with founders and developers is central to its mission. That makes the startup program more than a promotional perk. It is also a way for Anthropic to build relationships with companies that could become long-term customers or partners.

The offer is useful, but clearly limited

The eligibility rules show that Anthropic is targeting younger businesses rather than established firms. Companies founded in the last five years or funded in the last two years can apply through the Claude for Startups program page.

The package is also limited in scope. It offers up to five premium seats and a set amount of API credits, so it is designed to help startups get started, not to cover all of their future needs.

Still, for companies deciding which AI platform to build on, a free year of Claude Team and early access to Anthropic’s tools could make the program hard to ignore.
